Zi Ling is a painter of Chinese origin, who trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Chelsea College of Arts and Central Academy of Fine Arts in China. She is a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours and her works have been showcased at Royal West of England Academy, the Church of St-Martin-in-the-Fields, Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, Society of Women Artists, Wells Art Contemporary, Chester Art Fair, and Sadler's Wells Theatre, among others. She received the Richard Plincke RI Prize(2021), the Cass Art Prize (2019), DAC Beachcroft Space Prize (2018), Frank Herring Easel Award (2018), First Prize of Leathersellers Award (2016), and the Rosemary & Co. Prize (2015) from the Princess Michael of Kent. The National Art Museum of China has also collected her works.

Her artwork has been created  using a mix of spray paint, ink, pastel and acrylic on a wooden board. Less of a stream of consciousness and more juxtaposition, it is a layered representation of contrasting stimuli that are the product of the dialectical tension between observation and action, instinct and meditation. This delightfully chaotic mix of shapes and colours is a journey through the soul of Princess Margaret, transforming the fragility of the subject's soul into a strength.
